Pembroke is a unique medieval walled town complete with a magnificent Norman castle, Millpond, Castle Pond and Commons area. The half mile Main Street with burgage plots to the rear of each property has been the main thoroughfare since Norman times or earlier. Incomers from many parts of Europe have helped to shape the character of the town:- Celts, Vikings, Flemish, English and Normans to name but a few, and today this little town with a big heart is the gateway to the glorious South Pembrokeshire coast.

A home for the story

Family and community are still strong in Pembroke. 'Within living memory' covers a span of more than a hundred years, and so people's memories, experiences and stories are recorded here both to celebrate lives and to share them with as many people as possible. The project is run by volunteers and based in the Tabernacle Chapel in Main street, with website work done in the nearby Community Centre, Pembroke 21C.

Monthly 'memory sharing' events take place in the Tabernacle meeting room in order to continue gathering information and photographs, listen to each other, and learn about times past. In the main chapel area a variety of photographic displays can be seen ranging from old Main Street images to Town Walls and burgage plot information.

A work in progress

It is also important to note that there is much more information to be uploaded to the website and this will be done over the coming months. The site is designed in a way that contributions can and will be added continuously, so if you want to contribute a picture, snippet or story do get in touch by emailing reception@pembroke21c.org.uk
